Step 1

Before laying your new lawn you must ensure your soil is prepared correctly so that your new lawn can establish healthily. Firstly, you need to ensure all old lawn and weeds are removed. This is best done by spraying round up or a similar product. For best results spray round up at least 7-10 days prior to commencement of ground preparation. Leave the ground for two weeks and spray it again to ensure all weeds are destroyed.

Step 2

Secondly level your ground. This can be done by hand tools or via bobcat. If your soil is hard or has a lot of clay we recommend applying gypsum to break up and loosen the soil. When levelling allow 15-20 cm below driveways, pathways etc., as the lawn needs room to grow on top of the soil.

Step 3

Now your area is ready for top soil. Use a turf underlay which is a sand and soil mix ensuring it is not recycle soil, as recycle soil contains a lot of rubbish which is not beneficial for your new lawn. The top soil should be spread evenly over the whole area and the depth of which you spread it varies depending on the quality of your old soil and the area to fill. A general measurement for the amount of soil to be added would be approximately 10-15 cm.
