As a professional turf supply, Sydney company delivering turf to hundreds of properties around the Sydney area, we get many requests about how to control weeds after the turf has been laid. Use this guide to deal with two of the most common lawn weeds you are likely to come up against this summer.
Dandelion Weeds
The dandelion is easily recognized by its long green, toothy leaves that grow flat to the ground around the stem. Dandelions bloom with bright yellow flowers that eventually form fluffy white puffballs.
These puffballs carry the seeds away on the lightest breeze. It’s the perfect system the plants use to quickly take over your lawn and create a problem for your neighbours as well.
Dandelion season is during spring and autumn, and they will thrive in lawns that aren’t as lush and healthy as they could be.
A dandelion taproot delves about 25cm into the ground but pulling them up is not the best way to eradicate an outbreak. The thick, brittle root will easily split, leaving just enough for the plant to regrow.
Controlling Dandelion Weeds
All Year Round Turf has helped hundreds of clients prevent dandelion outbreaks or deal with them quickly when they do raise their golden heads.
One of the most effective ways to eradicate dandelions is to spray your lawn with a post-emergence herbicide from the broadleaf weed control range. Check for the common active ingredient 2,4-D.
