Fix a Waterlogged Lawn?
Months of drought will compact the soil in your yard, making it difficult for the grass to get the nutrients it needs. When the rains come, the compacted soil can’t efficiently absorb the moisture, which leads to muddy puddles and soggy patches. Use these strategies to improve water absorption around your property.
Soil Aeration
One of the easiest ways to improve water absorption on a fresh turf installation, Sydney lawn is to aerate the soil. An aeration tool (a roller with long spikes) makes aeration a fairly straightforward job you should perform at least once or twice a year, or before the wet season.
Add Top Dressing
After you have aerated your lawn, add some top dressing to improve its water absorption capacity even further. Topdressing should only be added during the warmer months
French Drain
A french drain is a trench dug along a slope of 2 to 4 degrees for excess water to flow into. The bottom of the trench ends with a drywell discussed below.
Install a Drywell
A drywell is not much more than a large hole filled with gravel that will slow water buildup on your turf installation, Sydney lawn. An inlet line from a french drain or downpipe transfers surface water to the drywell, where it will more efficiently drain into the substrate rather than sit on top. You could also use a large bucket or bin to catch and store rainwater, which you can then use for keeping your lawn green during dry spells.
